WooSox catcher Stephen Scott swinging hot bat since promotion
Stephen Scott carried the WooSox to victory on Thursday night with his bat. After hitting two home runs and driving in six runs, Worcester was able to hold off Scranton 10-8. Not only was Scott the main reason for the win, but he also had all of that production out of the 9 spot in the lineup.
The Vanderbilt alum has been swinging a hot bat since his promotion to Triple-A on June 10th, as he is slashing .318/.427/.576 over 21 games. The numbers are the best he has put him since he was in High-A Greenville in 2021.
Scott played mostly catcher when he was with Portland before the promotion this season. He has played 12 games at catcher and 8 games at first base for the WooSox. I had the chance to chat with Scott right after his promotion about playing first base in Triple-A.
โJust being open minded to it, thatโs what I was talking to with Chad Tracy,โ said Scott to Beyond the Monster. โJust coming in and being in the lineup as much as I can. Part of that is versatility so if itโs going to be first base then it will be first base. I have mainly been catching this year but wherever I get in I will be excited for it.โ
The versatility of being able to play a second position has been the reason Scott has found himself in the lineup on a more consistent basis. While having to share time with Ronaldo Hernรกndez and Caleb Hamilton, Scottโs bat has forced his way for more starts at first and even a game at DH.
With Hernรกndez and Hamilton both slated to become free agents this winter, Scott seems destined for the starting catcher role at the start of next season in Worcester.
