WooSox broadcaster Tyler Murray named radio voice of the New York Knicks: ‘Calling games at Madison Square Garden would be a lot of fun’
The voice of the Worcester Red Sox, Tyler Murray, will be leaving the confines of Polar Park and will be calling Madison Square Garden his new home.
The MSG Networks named Tyler Murray as the new Knicks radio play-by-play voice on Thursday; he will be succeeding Ed Cohen.
Murray, 34, will work alongside lead analyst Monica McNutt, with studio analysts Alan Hahn and former Celtics’ Wally Szczerbiak filling in at times in that role.
“As a lifelong Knicks fan, it’s always been my dream to call their games,” Murray said in a news release. “The city, The Garden, the fans — there’s just nothing like Knicks basketball. It’s an absolute honor to join MSG Networks, and I’m excited to put in the work to continue their incredible standard of Knicks coverage on ESPN Radio."
Murray joined the WooSox radio and television broadcast team in 2022 and will become the 13th former full-time PawSox/WooSox broadcaster currently working in Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and now the National Basketball Association, the team announced on Thursday.
Murray was the lead radio and TV broadcaster for the WooSox, working alongside Jim Cain, Mike Antonellis, Jay Burnham, Cooper Boardman, and former Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi.
In addition, Murray had the opportunity this season to join the Red Sox radio broadcast crew, calling games on WEEI/Red Sox Radio Network alongside Will Flemming and Lou Merloni.
“The WooSox took a chance on me three years ago, and I’m so grateful for the experiences I’ve had and the friendships I’ve made at Polar Park,” Murray said in a team statement. “I'm proud to continue the incredible tradition of Red Sox Triple-A broadcasters taking the next step in their professional careers."
Murray grew up a Knicks fan and dreamed of someday getting an opportunity to call games from Madison Square Garden. In an interview on the “To the Show We Go Podcast”, presented by Beyond the Monster this past offseason, Murray was asked where he sees himself in five years or what his dream job is.
“My guilty pleasure team is the New York Knicks, because I am insane,” said Murray. “Calling games at Madison Square Garden would be a lot of fun.”
