WooSox add to their coaching staff, promote from the Portland Sea Dogs
The WooSox are adding to their coaching staff, promoting Double-A Portland hitting coach Doug Clark to Chad Tracy’s staff, per Liam Skiffington of the Baseball Isn’t Boring podcast.
Clark will be the co-hitting coach with Rich Gedman, per MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
The 47-year-old has been coaching in the Red Sox organization since 2022, prior to that he was in the Giants system for seven seasons, reaching Double-A as their hitting coach.
Clark was a star athlete playing football, baseball and tennis at Springfield Central High School in Springfield, Mass. He played college baseball at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, as a walk-on. He played three seasons before being drafted by the Giants in the seventh round of the 1997 MLB draft.
Clark retired from professional baseball in 2015, after 17 seasons, playing at all levels. He owns 2,384 career professional hits, including one at the big league level.
The WooSox also added Noah Junis as their new bullpen coach last week.
Junis was the Assistant Director of Pitching for Premier Pitching Performance in Saint Louis, which is a private pitching organization.
The new WooSox bullpen coach is also the brother of big league pitcher Jakob Junis, who pitched under Andre Bailey while with the Giants last season. As Beyond the Monster’s Andrew Parker pointed out, the connection of Bailey and Junis’ brother in San Francisco helped bring Noah to the Red Sox organization.
