WooSox add new bullpen coach; 'He understands every side of pitching and development'
The 2023 offseason has been full of turnover for the Worcester Red Sox coaching staff.
So far, we have seen the organization decide to not bring back pitching coach Paul Abbott and assistant hitting coach Mike Montville along with a few others. While there have yet to be replacements named for the two positions listed, there was an announcement made regarding a new bullpen coach in Worcester.
Noah Junis made it official on his social media channels this past week that he has accepted a job as the WooSox bullpen coach. Junis was the Assistant Director of Pitching for Premier Pitching Performance in Saint Louis, which is a private pitching organization. According to his bio on their website, Noah got into coaching after helping his brother, Jakob, with his career development. Jakob is coming off a career best season in 2023 with the Giants under Red Sox pitching coach Andrew Bailey. The move seems to have Bailey’s fingerprints all over it.
During his time at Premier and previously at Push Performance in Arizona, Junis has worked with plenty of professional arms. Former Phillies pitcher Michael Plassmeyer has worked with Junis for the past three seasons while back home in Saint Louis.
“He understands every side of pitching and development.” Plassmeyer said about Junis. “When you pair that with his drive to continue to learn, you get a great coach.”
Plassmeyer made his MLB debut in 2022 with the Phillies and made another appearance in 2023 after a lengthy IL stint.
“I’ve worked with him for about three years now and Noah has helped me so much.” Plassmeyer added. “He puts the player and their health first at all times. He is very adaptive and knows how to revamp your training to fit what makes sense to the player. Everything is personalized with to give you the best chance to succeed. He will be a great addition to the staff with the Red Sox.”
