It has been anything but rememberable or remarkable for Josh Winckowski while he’s been in the Majors this with the Red Sox.
The time to turn things around needs to happen soon as a lot of the pitching staff that was out due to injuries are starting to recover and work out their selected rehab slated schedules.
With that being said, Winckowski hasn’t been terrible on the mound for the Sox, but he hasn’t been remarkable either.
The righty made his MLB debut on May 28 when he was called up from Triple-A Worcester.
In that game against Baltimore, Winckowski only worked three innings where he allowed four runs on six hits. He exited the game with a 12.00 ERA.
“It wasn’t good,” he said in reference to his first big league game.
Winckowski, in the month of June seemed to find his groove and turned things around posting a 3-0 record. In those three games he earned wins over Oakland, Detroit and Cleveland. Two of which have a losing record, Cleveland is .500.
Although he managed to earn three wins in June, he only recorded nine strikeouts. Winckowski did have a stellar outing where he didn’t allow a run or a hit against Oakland through five innings.
In the month of July, Winckowski is 0-2 with a 5.73 ERA in 11 innings of work. Through the month, Winckowski has allowed seven runs on 12 hits and has struck out eight and walked six.
Obviously his roughest outing came against the Yankees where allowed six runs on six hits, two home runs and walked five and struck only two through five innings of work.
Thus far into his big league career with Boston, Winckowski has worked 31 innings where he has allowed 16 runs on 35 hits and has a 21/12 strikeout to walk ratio.
On Wednesday night, Winckowski will try and find his winning ways again the the potent Rays offense.
