The Red Sox have worn green St. Patrick’s Day themed uniforms the last 18 seasons. Unfortunately, that tradition came to an end on Friday when Boston played host to the Braves at JetBlue Park.
The reason the Red Sox did not wear their traditional green jerseys were not their fault. Nike no longer produces green jerseys for teams, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.
“While the Red Sox wore green caps in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, they did not wear the customary green jerseys,” Speier reported. “According to a team spokesperson, Nike no longer produces the green jerseys for teams.”
The Red Sox wore the St. Patrick’s Day themed caps to honor the city of Boston.
Boston did not have the luck of the Irish on Friday, the Braves defeated the Sox 8-0.
