This Sunday will mark the beginning of the second season in the post-Drew Brees era and the first year of the post-Sean Payton era. The first year without Brees was rough after losing Jamies Winston early to a knee injury. Which left the Saints in a rough patch in the quarterback position.
The 2021 Saints team relied heavily on the back of now head coach Dennis Allen and his brains as the defensive coordinator. With the addition of Tyrann Mathieu in the secondary, Allen and the defense added depth while also losing a big piece and the energy of the defense in C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
One of the biggest question marks for this team will be the new look offense. With the departure of the master-minded offensive coach in Payton, Pete Carmichael who has been the OC since the infamous 2009 Superbowl run will have his hands full.
In the offseason, the Saints added wide receiver Jarvis Landry and drafted rookie Chris Olave. Both of who should be good compliments to Michael Thomas who missed last season with an ankle injury. While adding these pieces, fans are left very curious about what will happen to their biggest weapon Taysom Hill. During training camp, Hill snaps at tight end and is currently second on the depth chart.
If you are a Saints fan there are plenty of reasons to be excited about this season. To open up the season against your biggest rival in Atlanta will be a great spark for such an excited team. Another fun bit for any betting people is the O/U at 8.5 wins for the Saints set by Vegas.
