Watch Jarren Duran make an athletic move to beat out a grounder to second
Jarren Duran’s speed has been a difference maker at the top of the lineup for the Red Sox. Duran utilized that speed in the top of the third inning against the Guardians.
The lightning fast centerfielder led off the top of the third and hit a chopper to second. Guardians second baseman Andrés Giménez shuffled to his left to make the play but had to hurry to get Duran. Because of Duran’s speed, Giménez made an off throw to first and Duran avoided the tag and was safe at first.
Duran would later score in the inning giving the Red Sox an early 1-0 lead.
Following last night’s game, manager Alex Cora raved about Duran’s speed.
“He’s been really good. The dynamic player we envisioned,” Cora said. “It’s funny, because last year, there was a lot of talk about calling him up because he was hitting home runs and all that. This year, not much talk, and he’s just having.
“Running the bases, being an athlete, hitting the ball the other way. Not trying to do too much, and he played good defense too. This is what we want. We want a guy that can go the other way, hitting line drives, putting the ball in play and putting pressure on the opposition. That’s the best version of him.”
