There might not be a better story around baseball right now than Cam Booser’s inspirational journey that led him back to the sport.
Following his call-up from the WooSox to the Red Sox on Friday night, Booser made his big league debut against the Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Most of Booser’s immediate family and his girlfriend were on hand for his debut. The hard-throwing lefty came in the game for mop-up duty; he saw pinch-hitter Alika Williams triple and then score on an Edward Olivares groundout.
He earned his first big league strikeout, getting Andrew McCutchen swinging on a 96-mph four-seam heater. He would then need just seven pitches to retire the side in the ninth inning.
On Saturday afternoon, Booser sat down with NESN’s Jahmai Webster and talked about how much it meant for him to have his family there for his debut and wanting to be a Boston Red Sox.
