At the trade deadline, the Bruins were one of the busiest teams in the NHL. As they improved their roster for a deep playoff run, they added multiple veterans, including Tyler Bertuzzi. The former second-round pick has appeared in 16 games for the Bruins and proven to be a valuable piece.
During his Bruins tenure, Bertuzzi has recorded nine points and added six assists to his resume. Before the trade, he had 14 points in 29 games with the Red Wings. Bertuzzi has provided a spark offensively and proved to be a perfect fit on a team that is rewriting the record books.
Additionally, through 249 minutes as a Bruin, the former 58th overall pick has not been afraid to sacrifice his body. Bertuzzi has landed 18 hits and blocked five shots. He has added six takeaways to his resume and excelled regardless of the situation. The former 58th overall pick is proving to be an impactful piece on a team with championship aspirations.
When the clock strikes zero on the 2022-2023 season, Bertuzzi will be an unrestricted free agent and likely have a few suitors. The Bruins should be on that list, and every game, the veteran forward is showing why. He can affect the game in multiple ways that don’t always appear on the scoresheet.
While Bertuzzi’s value is growing with every game, his current focus is helping Boston end its championship drought. The Bruins have incredible depth; the Ontario native has added to that. Due to his physical style of play, Bertuzzi could be an asset to Boston in the playoffs.
With only five games left in the regular season, the veteran winger will be looking to show why he should be in the lineup come playoff time. Head Coach Jim Montgomery will some hard decisions to make with Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall nearing their returns to the lineup. That could leave Bertuzzi as the odd man out on some nights.
Regardless of what decision Montgomery makes, Bertuzzi is showing that he still has plenty left in the tank. Over the last few weeks, he has been a different player after struggling offensively with the Red Wings earlier this season.
