Two teams that could be the best fit for Derek Carr
Derek Carr has visited the Saints and Jets but what team could be the best fit for Carr?
One of the hottest names in free agency this spring is Derek Carr. There will be a lot of teams in search of a franchise quarterback.
Carr was released last week by the Raiders just in time to void his guaranteed money from the team. The move comes after he told the team he would not allow a trade to take place.
Over the last two weeks, Carr has met with two teams the Jets and the Saints.
The former Fresno State signal caller can’t go wrong with either team. New York has an improved defense, a young wide receiver in Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall who will be returning from an injury next season.
New Orleans are easily the favorites to land Carr. The Saints have the ability to offer him a ready to win now team with arguably the best supporting cast of all teams searching for a quarterback.
If Carr comes to New Orleans, he would offer a reunion with former head coach Dennis Allen, better weapons in Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave and possibly Michael Thomas.
It’s unknown what the team will do with Thomas this offseason after restructuring his contract.
The biggest task New Orleans would face in signing Carr is paying his asking price. The 31-year-old is reportedly searching for north of $35 million.
Last offseason, the Saints were willing to go after Deshaun Watson who ended up signing with Cleveland for five-years, $230 million, with $44 million guaranteed.
While other teams have an opening at the quarterback position, the NFC South has three teams who potentially could sign Carr.
The Carr sweepstakes seemingly won’t be ending anytime soon as his brother said this week this will be a “long process.”
