It’s that time of the year again and the Hall of Fame Ballots are slowly being revealed. Roughly 38% of ballots have been revealed as of 1/12, so there is still many more to come within the next few weeks. Last year, there was only one player to make the 75% needed to get in, and that was David Ortiz. So far this year, there are two players over that threshold:
Todd Helton & Scott Rolen.
If you don’t follow Ryan Thibodaux on Twitter, you need to head there now and hit that follow button. His team does an amazing job collecting and analyzing all votes submitted by the BBWA. The graphic above shows how returning players are doing on the ballot that were on it last season. You see the rise in votes in most of these guys because Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Curt Schilling, and Sammy Sosa all fell off the voting list this year.
Todd Helton currently sits at 79.6%, which he has received votes on 121 of the 152 ballots. He would just need to receive a vote on 72.1% of the remaining ballots left to get in.
Scott Rolen is sitting a little more comfortable at 81.6%, having received votes on 124 of the 152 ballots. He would need to receive 70.9% of the remaining votes left to be revealed.
It’s still very early to tell if anyone from this ballot will be elected. These guys both could perform poorly on the anonymous ballots that always seem to be more harsh towards the end. A guy like Billy Wagner is a guy to keep an eye on. Sitting at 73% currently, he could sneak in as he looks to be trending up on most ballots revealed in the past couple of days.
