Trevor Story to make his Red Sox Spring Training debut against the Braves
It feels like it has been weeks since the Red Sox announced the signing of free agent infielder Trevor Story. In fact, it really has only been a little less than two weeks since they officially announced the signing. The anticipation has been mounting for Red Sox fans who want to see Story in live game action, albeit spring training action.
On Wednesday afternoon, Sox fans will get to see the club’s new second baseman take the field for the first time wearing a Red Sox uniform. Story will play second today and bat sixth in the lineup behind Alex Verdugo against the Braves from JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida.
Red Sox Manager Alex Cora confirmed to reporters on Wednesday that Story will bat sixth in the lineup against righties and likely hit second against lefties.
Last season, Story hit .297 (145 at-bats) against left-handed pitching in 76 games, meanwhile he only hit .234 (381 at-bats) in 134 games against right-handed pitching for the Rockies.
The new Sox infielder has returned to camp following the birth of his newborn child. Story was preparing to make his Spring Training debut last week against the Rays.
It has been a crazy first couple of weeks for the New Red Sox second baseman. For Story, things should begin to calm down as he starts to focus on Opening Day against the Yankees from the Bronx.
The Sox will play the Braves at 1 p.m. and the game can be seen on NESN.
