Trevor Story has hit three home runs in a game twice in his career
Story hit three dingers for the Rockies against the Giants back in 2018
Trevor Story had an iconic night at the plate for the Red Sox on Thursday. The second baseman went 4-for-4 slugging three home runs while driving in seven RBIs.
Story’s breakout game at Fenway Park wasn’t the first time the right-handed slugger has hit three homers in game. He also hit three dingers for the Rockies back in 2018 against the Giants from Coors Field.
In that game, Story crushed three solo shots in a 5-3 win for the Rockies. His three homers totaled a distance of 1,380 feet in that game which is more than 4 1/2 football fields.
One of Story’s homers in that game went 505 feet and landed on the left-field concourse.
Story swung so hard for the first homer in that game that he knocked him self to the ground at the plate. Former Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez commented after the game on Story’s legendary night.
“That's how you know he's hitting everything hard," said Gonzalez. "I was like, 'OK, my guy's feeling good today, so don't throw him strikes.' And he kept throwing him strikes. He took over and carried us tonight. It's always nice to see your teammate do something special."
Story can now add another three homer game to his resume and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
“Baseball is the most challenging sport in the world,” Story said. “I feel like on an everyday basis, you’re going to be challenged, especially here. It’s something that I take a lot of pride in, trying to be very even-keeled about it all. I just believe that the hard work pays off eventually. But yeah, it’s always very challenging,” Story said following his Red Sox three homer night on Thursday.
