Travelers open the season 4-0 behind Bryan Woo
Seattle Mariners pitching prospect Bryan Woo with a promising debut Tuesday against Springfield
On Tuesday night Bryan Woo made his debut for the Arkansas Travelers against the Springfield Cardinals. The righty who is ranked six in the Mariners pipeline didn’t make his first appearance last season until June coming off of Tommy John.
Woo bounced around last year starting in High-A Everett, going to Class-A Modesto before ending the year in the Arizona Complex League. He would end the season with a 4.78 ERA. In 32 innings of work, he struck out 46 batters.
While rehabbing last season Woo showed promising strides as he would record a season high 11 strikeouts in late August pitching six innings. He also earned Northwest League Pitcher of the week. Bryan ended 2022 in Arizona as he allowed just one run while also winning AFL Pitcher of the week.
Tuesday night Woo would look very impressive going four innings, allowing just one hit and giving up no runs. The righty recorded seven strikeouts on sixty-eight pitches while recording three strikeouts in the first and never really looking back. He would record another in the second and three more in the third before his day came to an end in the fourth.
However Opening Day in Little Rock wasn’t just about Woo as the Travelers offense would load the bases early in the game driving in three runs in the first. Arkansas’ bats would soon go silent for the remainder of the game until the ninth inning as the Travelers trailed 5-4. The offense would sit in the box patiently drawing back-to-back walks while Leo Rivas would hit a sac bunt allowing Robbie Tenerowicz to hit the two-run walk off single.
Arkansas now has a 4-0 record after sweeping the opening series for the first time since 2019 and while winning the season opener at Dickey-Stephens Park. The offense has scored 29 runs through four games.
