On this episode, Red Sox pitching prospect Adam Bates is back for his second appearance on To the Show We Go Baseball Podcast. Adam talks about being in the US for the first time and living away from his family in Australia, playing in the Sox' system and developing as a pitcher and personally, he also talks about some of his favorite things he experienced while in the US and much more.
The Red Sox have two Australian-born players in the organization. Adam talks about getting to chat with fellow Australian Liam Hendriks.
“I spoke to him a couple of times,” said Bates. “He got my number through my scout. So they kind of have an Australian tradition where if you're in a higher level than the other guy, you kind of always welcome.
“You know, such a far distance for us all the way from Australia, we don't really have that close personal contact with someone if you haven't been here for very long. You always introduce yourself, get to know them, make sure that, not necessarily alone, I've been through this. If you have any questions, they're there to help.
“And Liam, for me, was that, being in the Red Sox, my scout wasn't over there during spring training. So I didn't really have like, you know, someone I knew from back home. I think for most of spring training, I really only knew Stein and a couple other people. So being able to talk to him about some certain things was really cool.”
