Opening Day weekend has come and gone as the Red Sox drop 2 of 3 against the Yankees. Boston went on to defeat New York 4-3 on Sunday night. The Sox look to bounce back against the Detroit Tigers in a three-game series on the road.
This offseason the Sox have added two rotation arms in Michael Wacha and Rich Hill whom we will see on the bump in this series.
Michael Wacha takes the ball on Monday
The first game on the series will feature newly added Michael Wacha going up against Matt Manning.
The Tigers right-hander has never faced Boston however, did finish last season with a record of 4-7 and a 5.80 ERA. Allowing a total of 96H and 10 of which were home runs. As for Wacha he looks to start his career in Boston the right way. Wacha has faced this Tiger team once having a 1.80 ERA with 6Ks.
Rich Hill makes his 2022 season debut on Tuesday
Tuesday we will see the return of Rich Hill as he will face off against Tyler Alexander in a midday matchup. In his last start against Boston, Alexander went 2 innings allowing 4H and 2ERs. He holds a 6.75 ERA and 4Ks all-time against Boston. Hill however is a familiar face in Boston returning for his third time to the Sox rotation. He holds a career record of 3-0 when pitching against the Tigers with a 3.74 ERA and 43Ks in his 17 appearances.

Finally, in the series finale, we will have Eovaldi facing a familiar friend of the Red Sox Eduardo Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, who has spent the last seven years in Boston, including 2020 where he opted out for health reasons; will face his former team for the first time since signing with Detroit this past offseason. Rodriguez went four innings, with 3ER on 4H and 2Ks in his Tigers debut starting the season with a 6.75 ERA.
Eovaldi had a fairly similar start to the season going 5.0 innings and giving up 3ER on 7H and 7Ks giving him a 5.40 ERA. The right-handed hurler looks to have a bounce-back game after going just 4.1 innings last season against the Tigers allowing 7H and 6ERs.
Boston will need their starters to go a bit deeper in this series and give the bullpen a little help. The bullpen ended the New York series with 13 innings, 9H, 1ER and 15Ks. Biggest performance coming from Diekman going 3 up 3 down to clinch the series finale.
