Tanner Houck throws successful second rehab start for Worcester
Tanner Houck was back on the mound on Friday for his second start of his rehab appearances after coming back from his facial fracture.
Houck would end up pitching three scoreless innings and only throwing 34 pitches in total. He only gave up one hit, which was a ground ball past the third baseman. He also struck out three batters. He was getting swing and misses with his slider and his fastball topped out at 95 MPH.
Joe Jacques credits Red Sox teammate on pitch that 'will create misses top of zone'
Red Sox left-hander Joe Jacques earned his call-up to make his MLB debut back on June 12th. If you might recall, it was a bit of a bizarre one with not recording anything on his pitching line before the game being suspended due to rain. “Debut was pretty wild.” Jacques told
“I felt good.” Houck said of his rehab outing. “I have been working with Bush and Abbott about getting everything into sync before the injury happened. I felt like my old self again in terms of timing and in terms of stuff.”
His top two pitches were working, and he looked much better from his first rehab outing for Worcester last week. He struggled with throwing strikes and got into a bit of trouble.
“Getting the timing back and the flow of the rhythm of my windup and out of the stretch.” Houck said of biggest challenge. “That is something I have struggled with over the years in rehabs. My adjustments between last start to now was a lot better.”
For what seems like an ongoing and never-ending battle, the question was asked on what Houck thought his role would be once healthy.
“I look to start.” Houck added. “I have started my whole life and that is what I want to do. Since I started pitched, I told myself I wanted to be a starting pitcher in the big leagues so you have to shoot for the stars and work for that goal until someone tells you that you can’t do it.”
