Takeaways from the Bruins 1-0 loss to the Devils
The Boston Bruins dropped a 1-0 game to the Devils on Monday night. Boston had won their two previous games entering the contest in New Jersey.
The bottom six candidates looking to win a job in the preseason were no-shows. Devils goalie Vitek Vanecek turned aside all 24 of the Bruins shots in the win.
Johnny Beecher helps keep the score 1-0
Johnny Beecher is having an impressive preseason, he has two goals both coming in Saturday’s win over the Flyers. The 21-year-old made a nice play in the second period to keep the score 1-0.
Devils center Dawson Mercer had the puck behind the Bruins net. The 20-year-old fed the puck to 21-year-old Alexander Holtz who was waiting in front of the Bruins goal licking his chops.
Beecher should veteran instinct breaking up the feed and helping to turn away what would have been a second Devils goal.
Jack Ahcan with a pretty pass to Craig Smith
The Bruins had a chance to get on the scoreboard when defenseman Jack Ahcan sizzled a beautiful pass to Craig Smith.
The pass went the length of the ice and met Smith at the Devils blue line. Smith would go on the breakaway but Vanecek stood on his head and turned away the potential goal.
Boston dominated the face-off in the loss. The Bruins had a 69 percent success rate at center.
Bruins goalie Keith Kinkaid was solid between the pipes despite giving up the lone goal of the game. He stopped 19 of the Devils’ 20 shots in the game.
The 33-year-old net minder was injured when he made an awkward looking save. He did return to the Bruins bench at the end of the game.
