The Red Sox have officially announced the signing of free agent infielder Trevor Story. Boston agreed to terms with Story on a six-year, $140 million deal on Sunday. His contract also includes an option for a seventh season.
Story can opt-out if his deal after the 2025 season, however, that can be negated if Boston picks up his seventh-year option for 2028. In total, Story’s deal can be worth $160 million.
Boston will introduce Story this morning at 8:30 a.m. from Jet Blue Park. To make room on the 40-man roster, Red Sox outfielder Jeisson Rosario was designated for assignment.
Rosario and Hudson Potts were acquired by Boston during the 2020 season for Mitch Moreland. The Red Sox also designated Potts for assignment on Tuesday after claiming pitcher Kyle Tyler off waivers from the Angels.
The 29-year-old Story is a two-time All-Star and a two-tome Silver Slugger. He has a career .282 average with 158 home runs in 745 games. There is concern of Story’s stats outside of Coors Field. The last three seasons, Story has hit .236 away from Coors Field, including last season where he hit .203 at the dish.
