The New York Yankees have 72 wins and are struggling mightily since the MLB trade deadline. The Bronx Bombers are 2-8 in their last 10 games including dropping two of three to the Boston Red Sox this past weekend.
After dropping their 11th game in 14 games to the Tampa Bay Rays from the Bronx on Tuesday night, ESPN’s Steven A. Smith gave his honest opinion on the Yankees recent play.
“The Yankees, you look like trash right now. You look like flat-out trash. You’re worse than how it smells from the sewers in the Bronx. And I was born in the Bronx. I know what the hell I’m talking about. I’ve taken the D Train many times in my life. I got family on Webster Avenue, for crying out loud. Y’all straight garbage! There’s more expected from the New York Yankees!,” said Smith.
The First Take host is a Yankees fan but right now, thinks his team is hot garbage. He even went as far as to say that Mets owner Steven Cohen is the “closest replica to George Steinbrenner.”
“Come on, y'all. The New York Mets are coming,' Stephen A continued. 'They got an owner that's the closest emulation, the closest replica to George Steinbrenner. Steve Cohen got money, and he's willing to spend. I don't know if y'all notice... you see the way the ball coming out of the hand of DeGrom? He looks unstoppable. I'm worried about the Mets because I'm a Yankees fan. Let me tell you what can't happen in New York City, Aaron Boone, if you wanna keep your job. The Mets can't be in the World Series and the Yankees home. Even Hankin' Hal ain't tolerating that,” proclaimed Smith in his tirade.
The Yankees are going to still win the American League East and make the postseason. However, the way this Yankees team is playing, they do not look like a serious World Series contender.
