Sterling Sharp was signed by the Boston Red Sox on August 9 to a minor-league deal and was assigned to Double-A Portland.
On Saturday night, Sharp will make his debut with the Red Sox Double-A affiliate against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
Sharp, 27, spent the entire 2022 season with the Washington Nationals Triple-A affiliate Rochester Red Wings where he posted a 2-5 record with a 6.62 ERA over 18 games (13 starts). He worked 66 and two things innings while striking out 59 this season for the club before being released on August 5.
Sharp does have MLB experience where he made his major-league debut for Miami during the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
He appeared in four games for the Marlins where he posted a 10.13 ERA over five and a third innings where he allowed six runs on seven hits and only produced three strikeouts on 111 pitches out for the bullpen.
Sharp likely won’t spend a lot of time in Double-A before making the jump to Triple-A Worcester.
