Opponents: Rangers (A), White Sox
Week Record: 2-4
Overall Record: 76-80
Current spot in standings: 5th place in AL East
The week started off well when the team went to Arlington to take on the Texas Rangers and left game one with a 4-2 win.
Kutter Crawford was fantastic for six innings, giving up just two runs and recording seven strikeouts.
A three-run eighth inning allowed for the team to flip a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead, which they would not let go.
In game two of the series, things were off to a good start, when the team had a 3-1 lead, but things quickly spiraled when the Rangers struck for three runs in the 5th and 6th inning to give the Rangers a 4-3 lead.
An Alex Verdugo RBI fielders choice tied the game at four, but a seventh inning rally from the Rangers was enough to give them the 6-4 win.
In the series finale, the team started off strong for Brayan Bello as they had a 4-0 lead early.
However, this was not Bello’s day, as he gave the lead right back on his way to giving up eight earned runs over three innings pitched.
This game quickly become a laugher as the Rangers offense rolled with no response from the Sox, seeing this one end 15-5 in favor of Texas.
In the weekend series with the Chicago White Sox, things once again were off to a good start when the team was trailing 2-1 in the eighth inning, but an Adam Duvall sacrifice fly and Masataka Yoshida go0ahead RBI single, gave the team a 3-2 lead.
Chris Martin was solid in the ninth and the game ended with that same score.
Game two of the series was a snooze fest as the offense was unable to get going, the pitching however was solid as Nick Pivetta had a fantastic outing, recording a shutout through seven innings.
A Luis Robert solo shot in the ninth inning was all the White Sox needed as the Red Sox would have no answer, leaving this one with a 1-0 loss.
In the series finale, the game was cut short due to rain after six innings, but it was more of the same as there was limited offense.
The only runs coming off Wilyer Abreu and Adam Duvall solo shots, but the White Sox were able to pluck away and when the rain came down, they were up 3-2, leaving that as the final score.
If you were wondering where the offense was this week, I’m right there with you as the team looked lifeless and looked like they were eyeing 2024 a bit early.
There really wasn’t much positive to say about this week as the team struggled in just about all phases, but the young guys have been getting some looks so that is promising and exciting.
The team enters the final week of the season starting with a two game set with Tampa starting tomorrow night.
