St. Louis Cardinals hire former Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom
The St. Louis Cardinals are bringing aboard former Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom. The team announced Bloom will join the organization as an advisor to president of baseball operations John Mozeliak.
"It will be good to get an outside perspective of our organization from someone who is as well-respected as Chaim. Having a fresh set of eyes on all aspects of our baseball operations should be helpful,” the Cardinals released in a statement on social media.
Bloom had been connected to the Cardinals since the beginning of the offseason.
The former Red Sox front officer leader became available after Boston fired him back in September. The club hired Craig Breslow to replace him as the new chief baseball officer.
Bloom spent parts of four seasons running the Red Sox. During his time in Boston, the club went to the American League Championship series once in 2021 but finished in last place three of the four seasons he was in charge.
Bloom was tasked with improving the Red Sox farm system which is now one of the best in baseball. He also traded Mookie Betts and David Price prior to the 2020 season, signing Trevor Story and re-signed Rafael Devers to a massive contract extension.
Bloom would have been under contract with the Red Sox for one more season, he can work in a consultant or advisor role for another organization. The expectation is he will work remotely for the Cardinals while he stays in the Boston area.
Mozeliak is under contract for the Cardinals through 2025.
