Enmanuel Valdez
Valdez is a must watch prospect. He was acquired by Boston last year in a trade that sent Christian Vazquez to the Houston Astros. Also coming over to the Red Sox in the trade was Wilyer Abreu, who ranked No. 20 on the BTM Top 30 Prospect list. He hit seven homers and drove in 30 in 44 games with Triple-A Worcester last year. Valdez will start and likely finish with year with Worcester.
Brainer Bonaci
Bonaci played in 108 games last season with Low-A Salem where he hit six homers and drove in 50 and slashed .262/.397/.385. He walked and stuck out 89 times last year with Salem. A promotion to Greenville is not out of the question, but I think we see Bonaci start in Salem and the get the call to Greenville later in the year.
Niko Kavadas
Niko “nuke” Kavadas quickly made a name for himself last year with the Red Sox. He jumped from Low-A Salem to High-A Greenville to Double-A Portland in a matter of months. The hefty lefty hit 26 bombs and drove in 86 in the minors last season. 14 of the homers came in Salem and 10 came in Greenville. Double-A Portland will be the starting point, but ending the year in Triple-A Worcester should not be out of the question.
Cutter Coffey
Coffey was drafted last year in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft 41st overall. The 18-year-old signed for roughly right under $2MM with the Red Sox out of the MLB Draft. In the complex league last year he slashed .125/.300/.156 with no homers and no RBI in 11 games. Coffey will be a fun prospect to keep up with in 2023, likely in Salem for the entire year, but could start back out in FCL.
Wilyer Abreu
Acquired from the Astros in the Christian Vazquez trade with No. 16 prospect Enmanuel Valdez, Abreu has shined since joining the Red Sox organization. He slashed .242/.399/.375 with Portland last year and four homers with 19 RBI in 40 games. He will likely start in Worcester this year.
