SoxSpects: The future of Red Sox prospect Jarren Duran
What is the future of No. 4 overall prospect Jarren Duran?
The Boston Red Sox need help at the big-league level, whether it be pitching or hitting, but they are needing it and needing it sooner rather than later. So, with that being said there is one name that keeps coming up for either a promotion from Triple-A Worcester to the big league (again) or a trade.
That name; Jarren Duran.
Even though everyone knows the name, not only because of his electric season he’s having for Worcester, but, because he’s been in the majors before with Boston. In 33 games for Boston last season, he hit two home runs and drove in 10. He also collected two triples and three doubles, but he did strike out 40 times with a .215 average in 107 total at-bats.
The main question though is this; is Duran ready for the bigs this time or is it time for the Red Sox to move on from Duran while the “getting is good”.
Here’s the thing that we know right now. Boston needs help.
As note though in Alex Speier’s article, the headline says it all. Don’t expect Duran [or Casas] in the MLB soon — not yet at least.
But if the Red Sox aren’t willing to promote Duran, would the best available option at that point be to trade the number four prospect in the Sox system? Clearly, if the Red Sox aren’t going to promote Duran, then the other solution would be to trade the 25-year-old.
Here is what Boston should do. They should recall Duran, give him a chance at the MLB-level again and if he doesn’t produce the way they want or expect, then they could trade him away for higher value whether it is higher graded prospects or an MLB player that can produce at the plate or on the mound.
Update with story coming from us here at Beyond the Monster later:
Prior to publishing this story, the unexpected was the only thing known. At 7:51 AM, Alex Speier reported that Boston would be promoting Duran to the big-league club, and he would in fact join the Red Sox and would be placed on the active roster.
