Triston Casas has been a fun study for Red Sox fans. Over the last weeks that study has become more relevant now than ever before for the fans. Fans want him up now, but it seems like the Red Sox are still waiting on the “perfect time”. But when is the perfect time? If you ask me, it’s now.
On Friday night Bobby Dalbec dropped and easy out and went hitless at the plate and a walk against the Chicago White Sox. Not only that, but Dalbec also has .145 batting average with a home run and three runs batted in over 76 at-bats.
And if you’re wondering, and Uber from Boston to Worcester is $71-$93.
In Dalbec’s last seven games, he has one hit and has struck out five times with a miserable .071 batting average through 14 at-bats. It isn’t any better over his last 15 games as he has six hits with two runs batted in, however, he has struck out 14 times and has below-par .140 batting average.
As for Casas, he’s had some rough spots at Triple-A this year, there’s no denying that. However, he has turned it on lately.
So far this season with Worcester in 97 at-bats he has five home runs with 19 runs batted in with a batting average of .258 in 27 games played.
Casas is a little better on the defensive front too. He has zero errors with 151 put outs, 16 assists, and 14 double plays in 181.1 innings. Dalbec, on the other hand, has 150 put outs with nine assists and 13 double plays in 200.1 innings. That’s 19 more innings than Casas and slightly lower numbers.
The Red Sox may not gain much on the defensive end with a promotion of Casas, but they would receive better offensive production with him over Dalbec.
With the recent promotion of Duran, the Red Sox could use — not only Casas as a replacement for Dalbec — but they could potentially call up pitching prospects along the way.
The Red Sox have a decision to make. And it needs to happen now.
