Ryan Fitzgerald, who was named the Red Sox Prospects offensive player of the Month for April has been lighting it up this season for Triple-A Worcester. In his 27 games played this year he has eight home runs and 23 runs batted in. He has also collected six doubles and two triples along the way as well and is slashing .295/.364/.653.
For the month of May, Fitzgerald has two home runs and four runs batted in with six hits and three runs scored with a slash line of .261/.346/.522 with six hits in 23 at-bats with 12 total bases collected.
Those numbers won’t be eye-popping, but his numbers for the month of April with 72 at-bats he produced six home runs and drove in 19 runs and collected six doubles and two triples.
He has struck out a total of 31 times this season.
On Sunday, Fitzgerald and Casas both hit solo home runs for Worcester, but that was the only run production that the WooSox would receive as they would fall 7-2 to Toledo.
As the fans continue to grow impatient with Chaim Bloom and the productivity from the big-league club, fans start to become more vocal in their reactions. And it is justified.
Let’s face it Trevor Story has left his bat back in Colorado. Bobby Dalbec hasn’t produced and is having a lackluster season at the plate. The two combined are hitting a miserable .168. Story has 18 hits in 93 at-bats (.194) and Dalbec has 11 hits in 79 at-bats (.139) and they both have a combined 63 strikeouts with Story having (35) and Dalbec having (28). The difference between the two is two games. Story has played in 24 and Dalbec has played in 26.
The Red Sox are now 10-19 on the year. Here is a timeline of when they lost their 19th game, according to Boston Sports Info via Twitter under the Alex Cora era.
2018 — (43-19) — 19th loss came during 62nd game.
2019 — (22-19) — 19th loss came during 41st game.
2021 — (29-19) — 19th loss came during 49th game.
2022 — (10-19) — 19th loss came during 29th game.
Rafael Devers though has been vocal about the continuous struggles from the club.
“I know the quality team that we have, so I know in the end everything is going to turn out and we’re going to get to our full potential. But right now, it’s not going our way. But we’re working every day to get to where we need to get.”
Fitzgerald needs to be promoted, just like Casas and when Jarren Duran gets promoted again, he needs to stay. Dalbec has earned his way off of the club for the time being. The change needs to happen now before the season gets fully away from the Red Sox.
