Should the Red Sox look to acquire DFA’d first baseman Jesús Aguilar?
It’s no secret the Red Sox could use a little more pop in their lineup. Could the Sox turn to former Marlins first baseman Jesús Aguilar?
The power hitting Aguilar was recently designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins. Aguilar hit .236 with 33 extra-base hits including 15 home runs, 49 RBIs and a .674 OPS for Miami.
With Eric Hosmer currently on the injured list and Triston Casas still with Triple-A Worcester, Aguilar could make sense for Boston.
The issue the Red Sox will run into is Aguilar will have the option to chose a contender to land with prior to the September 1st cutoff date. If Aguilar is on a Major League roster by Sept. 1, he will be eligible for postseason play.
The Red Sox are highly unlikely going to play in the postseason, so Aguilar would have to chose Boston because he would know he’d be guaranteed playing time.
