Shane Drohan looks to continue putting up strikeouts in 2023
There may not be another pitcher in the Red Sox system that has had a better stretch of striking guys out than Shane Drohan. Drohan, who the Red Sox selected in the fifth round of the 2020 MLB draft, received a promotion to AA Portland because of his ability to create so many swings and misses. While pitching for Greenville, he put up a 11.6 K/9, which was 136 strikeouts in only 105 innings pitched. The transition to AA saw his numbers take a bit of a hit in his five games he pitched in, but its such a small sample size to make much of it at this point.
Drohan is currently projecting to slot in at the top of the rotation for the Sea Dogs to begin the 2023 season. He finished the 2022 season in the top 20 in the entire minor leagues in strikeouts. If he can keep those numbers up in Portland, look for Drohan to be a guy who could get a call up to Worcester later this season.
The Red Sox Player Development Twitter page put together a pretty cool video with Drohan they posted last month. The page is a good resource to stay up to date with prospects, especially over the offseason with videos like this one.
