Ryan Fitzgerald’s bat remains hot, homers twice for the WooSox
Fitzy now has three home runs to begin the season with Triple-A Worcester
Ryan Fitzgerald has quickly made a name for himself within Red Sox Nation since Spring Training. The Red Sox prospect has been showing off some power with hitting homers while down in Fort Myers. Fitzgerald continued to show his power stroke by homering twice on Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
Fitzgerald made a case for himself to make the Red Sox Opening Day roster this spring by hitting .313 with four home runs and nine RBIs in 20 plate appearances.
Unfortunately, the Red Sox optioned Fitzgerald back to Triple-A Worcester. Since the start of the Triple-A season, Fitzy has hit three home runs, including the two he hit on Thursday night.
In the top of the first inning down in Jacksonville, Fitzgerald hit a solo-homer to give Worcester a 1-0 lead.
Four innings later, the super-utility man crushed his second homer of the game. His two-run shot gave the WooSox a 4-2 lead.
“I want to hit a home run, every pitch, every count, every situation, I am trying to go yard every time,” Fitzgerald said during an appearance on In the Dugout Podcast.
The season has just begun for the minor leaguers and Fitzgerald has been continuing his hot start from the spring. It will be interesting to see if he can keep up this torrid start and land with the major-league club this season.
