Ryan Fitzgerald hits his third homer of the spring, Rafael Devers with a solo shot
Welcome to the Sox Dingrs Report for March 23, 2022!
The Red Sox looked to extend their spring winning streak to seven games on Wednesday. Unfortunately the Twins defeated the Red Sox 10-4 from Jet Blue Park in Ft. Myers, Florida.
Fresh off agreeing to a one-year, $11.2 million salary with the Red Sox on Tuesday, Rafael Devers hit his first homer of the spring. Devers’ hit his first tall jack in the bottom of the sixth inning cutting the Twins lead down to 4-1.
Fitzy does it again for his third homer of the spring
Ryan Fitzgerald has been swinging a hot bat over the first week of Spring Training. Heading into Wednesday’s game, Fitzgerald had already crushed two homers and he would add to that total in the bottom of the seventh.
With Boston down by three runs, Fitzgerald came to the dish with two runners on and two outs. Fitzgerald would hit a 1-1 pitch from Twins’ reliever Jacob Faria deep to right center field for a three-run tater that would tie the game at 4-4.
Red Sox’ NESN analyst Kevin Youkilis reaction was priceless for Fitzgerald’s team leading third home run. Youkilis has been using a Boston accent calling the 27-year-old Fitzy during his home run calls.
Unfortunately the Twins added six more runs after Fitzy’s homer, the loss snapped Boston’s six game winning streak. The Red Sox will play the Orioles on Thursday from Ed Smith Stadium. First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. eastern time. The game will be televised, but only on MASN.
