Ryan Fitzgerald crushes a solo home run in win over the Twins
Fitzgerald's dinger in the top of the seventh was the game winner
The Red Sox improved to 3-0 this spring by defeating the Twins 1-0 at Hammond Stadium. The Red Sox offense was quiet all day until the top of the seventh when Ryan Fitzgerald crushed a solo homer off Twins reliever Cody Stashak.
Fitzgerald was signed by the Red Sox in 2018 after going undrafted out of Creighton. The Hinsdale, Illinois native is an infielder on the depth chart but has worked in the outfield as well.
SoxProspects protects Fitzgerald as a high-level organizational player.
“Ceiling of a utility player who is valued for his versatility and sufficient offensive ability. Smart player with good baseball sense who makes the most of his ability. No standout tools, but all five tools will show averageish potential. Has some feel for hit and sneaky power. Can field the position at shortstop, with the versatility to also play second base, third base, and center field for now, as well as the outfield corners in the future, as the organization develops him as a utility player.”
Ryan Fitzgerald’s game winning home run
Fitzgerald’s home run was the lone run scored in the game. Over the first three games of the spring, the 27-year-old utility player has three RBIs. While he remains a long shot at making the big league roster, he is showcasing his value to manager Alex Cora.
