Former Red Sox shortstop José Iglesias has agreed to a one-year deal with the Colorado Rockies, according to Mike Feinsand of MLB.com.
Iglesias will earn $5 million with the Rockies this upcoming season. The 32-year-old shortstop split time between the Angels and the Red Sox in 2021. He came back to Boston after being released by the Angels on September 3, he signed with the Sox three days later.
Iglesias was extremely productive in his second-stint with Boston last season. During the month of September, he hit .356 with one dinger, seven RBIs in 23 games after signing his deal. Iglesias served as infield depth while the club was dealing with their COVID-19 outbreak in the clubhouse.
Unfortunately, because Iglesias was signed after September 1, he was not able to be added to the Red Sox playoff roster. The veteran infielder was a positive clubhouse presence during the postseason run. He served as the primary pusher of the home run cart in the dugout.
According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the Red Sox and Iglesias were never close to a reunion for 2022. Iglesias will now join his fifth team since making his major league debut in 2011.
