Report: Red Sox to make roster moves for Yu Chang and Joely Rodriguez
The Red Sox are expected to add Yu Chang (Wrist) and Joely Rodriguez (shoulder) to the active 26-man roster prior to the game against the Athletics on Friday night. Chang is on the 60-Day IL, meaning he would need a spot on the 40 man roster. David Hamilton was seen packing his bags after Thursday’s game, which signals he was likely optioned to AAA Worcester.
But the Red Sox still need to open a 40-man roster spot. One possibility is to DFA newly acquired pitcher Tayler Scott, which would allow Chang and Rodriguez to easily be added to the roster. Another possibility is to move Richard Bleier to the 60-Day IL and option a player like Joe Jacques.
If Bleier was added to the 60-Day IL, the earliest he would be eligible to return would be July 20th. Bleier has been on the 15-Day IL since May 21st (since the Padres series) with a shoulder injury. Even though Bleier began a rehab assignment in AAA Worcester, the Red Sox could wait until after the All-Star break to add the southpaw back to the active roster.
The roster moves will be interesting nonetheless with Pablo Reyes (Abdomen) expected to return very soon. It could mean the end of Kiké Hernández or Christian Arroyo. Stay tuned to Beyond the Monster for any roster related news.
