Report: Red Sox designate right-hander Hirokazu Sawamura for assignment
The Red Sox have been busy in the hours following the loss to the Rays on Sunday. The club will designate Hirokazu Sawamura for assignment, per Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.
This move comes on the heels of the Red Sox designating Austin Davis for assignment.
Sawamura struggled pitching at Fenway Park this season. In 29 1/3 innings, he pitched to a 5.83 ERA giving up 19 earned runs. On the road, he was far better in 21 1/3 innings he posted a 0.84 ERA.
In his last five games, he posted a 8.44 ERA giving up five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of work.
On Sunday, Sawamura threw 37 pitches in the sixth inning. In the process he gave up three hits and four earned runs.
The Red Sox front office has finally had enough of the subpar pitching performances out of their bullpen.
With Davis and Sawamura now out, it now remains to be seen if Ryan Brasier is the next man out?
