Over the last few weeks, the Red Sox have gotten key reinforcements with players coming off the injured list. One of those players is Reese McGuire, who missed over a month due to a right oblique strain. Now fully healthy, the Seattle native is making an impact at the plate.
Since his return to the lineup on August first, McGuire has appeared in 11 games and posted a .296 batting average. He has also shown some power with one home run and two doubles. While those numbers may not jump off the page, they are a massive improvement for the veteran catcher.
Before McGuire was placed on the IL, he had posted a .174 batting average in 23 at-bats in June. He also had more strikeouts than hits and only drew four walks. With McGuire regaining his rhythm at the plate, the Red Sox catching duo is a threat offensively on a daily basis.
While Connor Wong has emerged as the starter, the former first-round pick is showing that he is still capable of being a solid backup. His 11 doubles this season are only four short of his career high. With the Red Sox fighting for a playoff spot, McGuire has provided a spark offensively with a .333 batting average in his last seven games.
As the season winds down, the Red Sox will be counting on the 28-year-old to continue his recent stretch at the plate. While an increase in power would be nice, McGuire has shown in August that there is still plenty of life left in his bat.

We had a very good catcher named Christian Vasquez what was wrong with him oh yeah he no longer wanted to be paid the MLB minimum salary. Tampa is turning the Sox into a bottom tier franchise.
Tampa is what I call the idiot who is the President of our once great franchise because that’s where he was hired from. Since he has been in Boston he has started us on a downward spiral towards mediocrity. I have used other adjectives but have settled on Tampa since I don’t know if his ignorance is on purpose or not.
