Red Sox will continue to navigate the schedule without Trevor Story
Story and Red Sox fans get bad news regarding Story's injury
This Tuesday will mark three weeks since Trevor Story was hit in the wrist by a pitch. At the time many were optimistic no IL stint would be needed, he would need a few days to ice it and rest up.
Fast forward from those “few games off” to Friday when Story would have to meet with a hand specialist for a second opinion.
On Saturday, Story was diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his right wrist.
Alex Cora has stated Story needed a second opinion, due to agony of gripping the bat during his rehabbing. Cora added Story would be shut down from any swinging for the next 10-14 days.
It’s fair to assume with being shut down for possibly the next two weeks it could be another month before returning back to the lineup.
The way the team is spiraling down at this point of the season is unclear where they will be in the standings come his return. The Red Sox are currently 4-12 since his exit with an obvious struggle scoring runs.
Cora will piece work second base with Yolmer Sanchez and Christian Arroyo while Story is out. Arroyo just returned from the IL and will provide an upgrade for the position. Story’s bat is needed soon, but only once the former All-Star is healthy.
