Red Sox vs. Yankees: Nick Pivetta back on the mound, Enmnauel Valdez leads off, lineup
The Red Sox continue their Grapefruit League schedule on Thursday when they face the New York Yankees. The game will be played from George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida. First pitch will be thrown at 1:05 p.m., ET and the game can be seen on NESN360 and can be heard on WEEI 850 AM.
Nick Pivetta will make his second start of the spring. His first start saw the right-hander struggle against the Astros. Pivetta gave up five hits while collecting four strikeouts, he also have up a two-run homer to Astros’ Corey Julks.
The 30-year-old threw 43 pitches and lasted just 1 2/3 innings.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora came away with some positives from the right-handers start saying, “I thought his breaking ball was good,” manager Alex Cora said. “Fastball was good. I think location wise wasn’t great.”

Enmanuel Valdez leads off for the Red Sox
Enmanuel Valdez will lead off for the Red Sox as he continues to get an extended look for an opportunity to crack the 26-man roster.
The 24-year-old who is currently ranked No. 17 overall by SoxProsepcts will lead off for the club on Thursday. Valdez is currently hitting .200 with three hits, including a solo-homer in 15 at-bats.
Despite the low average, he has walked more than he’s struck out, (six walks to five strikeouts). In 10 game defensively, Valdez has started three games, playing 44 innings and has committed no errors.
The former Astros prospect had an impressive 2022 campaign he slashed .296/.376/.542 with 148 hits, 35 doubles, 28 homers, 107 RBIs in 126 games.
