Red Sox vs. Team Puerto Rico: Brandon Walter gets the start, Christian Vazquez and Kiké Hernández, lineup
The Red Sox will play an exhibition game against Team Puerto Rico on Wednesday night. This is ahead of Team Puerto Rico’s first World Baseball Classic contest against Nicaragua on Saturday.
Red Sox shortstop Kiké Hernández will play center field for Puerto Rico and hit second. Boston will also see Christian Vázquez play first base and bat fifth.
The Red Sox will feature left-hander Brandon Walter to face the loaded Team Puerto Rico lineup. Walter has pitched three innings this spring with five strikeouts with a 0.33 WHIP in two games.
The Delaware native feels good this spring and is ready to focus on the new upcoming season after dealing with injuries in 2022. The lefty had a neck issue that limited him to only 11 starts.
“I feel good,” Walter said to MLB.com’s Ian Browne. “I feel brand new. No issues with it. Hopefully it’s behind me forever.”
