Red Sox vs. Rays: Corey Kluber starts, Garrett Whitlock to debut, Rob Refsnyder, lineup
The Red Sox will play host to the Tampa Bay Rays at JetBlue Park at 1:05 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on NESN and heard on WEEI 850 AM.
Garrett Whitlock who has yet to pitch in a live game, will make his spring training debut. Whitlock has been rehabbing from arthroscopic hip surgery he underwent in September. The right-hander has reportedly suffered no set backs and will likely begin the season on the injured list.
The 26-year-old is expected to miss one or two weeks in April before joining the Red Sox rotation.
Whitlock will pitch in relief of Corey Kluber who will get the start. Kluber was also named the Red Sox Opening Day starter by manager Alex Cora on Wednesday.
Red Sox Lineup versus the Rays:
The following pitchers are expected to pitch in the game: RHP Corey Kluber, RHP Garrett Whitlock, RHP Kenley Jansen, RHP Chris Martin, LHP Joely Rodriguez, RHP Kaleb Ort, RHP Zack Kelly.
Rob Refsnyder will bat fifth after collecting his first spring training hit on Tuesday.
Refsnyder has struggled at the plate going 0-for-19, before hitting a homer in the fourth inning against the Tigers. The 32-year-old is now 1-for-22 this spring (.045) with a homer, three RBIs and a .458 OPS.
