Red Sox’ Vaughn Grissom goes 4-for-4 on Sunday; next stop: Fenway Park?
With Vaughn Grissom’s rehab stint coming to an end with the WooSox, the infielder had a huge game before joining his teammates in Boston.
The 23-year-old finished Sunday afternoon’s game, going 4-for-4, all singles with two RBI, one run, and one walk in Worcester’s 8-5 win over the Toledo Mud Hens.
Alex Cora told reporters that the team will need to “reassess” the situation regarding Grissom but expects him to join the team on Tuesday before the three-game series with the Giants.
Grissom started the year on the IL after he suffered a hamstring injury just two weeks into spring training. His 20-day rehab assignment began on April 12 and technically ends on Wednesday.
Grissom has gone 10-for-30 (.333) with a .444 on-base percentage, two doubles, two RBIs, three runs, two steals, five walks, and nine strikeouts in nine rehab games for the WooSox.
"My legs' feeling great,” Grissom said before the WooSox home opener last Tuesday night. “My timing is right around where everyone else was in first week of spring training. It is just about getting more at-bats."
Grissom played six games at second base during his rehab assignment. The Florida native played a clean 42 innings at the position, with 15 assists and five double plays.
Boston will need to make a few roster moves before Tuesday’s game to make room for Grissom and new first baseman Garrett Cooper.
The Red Sox acquired Cooper from the Cubs on Saturday for cash considerations. He was added to the 40-man roster after the team transferred Triston Casas to the 60-day IL with fractured cartilage connecting the ribcage to the sternum. Casas will miss the next two months as he deals with that injury.
