Red Sox Tuesday Minor League Round Up
The Red Sox minor leaguers were back on the field Tuesday working out down in Fort Myers. Top prospects Blaze Jordan, Marcelo Mayer, Nick Yorke and Alex Binelas completed infield drills.
Jordan and Binelas have been taking grounders at first base. It has also included simulating work around the bag. Binelas who is considered more of an offensive-minded player, is willing to learn any position to make it to the big leagues. The new Red Sox prospect is focusing on getting better everyday while in camp.
“I’m going to come in every day locked in and never take an at-bat off. I’m going to lock in on every pitch on offense and defense and get better every day, and if I can control those variables -- how my attitude is, how my mindset is, how I go about my business -- the rest is just going to take care of itself,” said Binelas to MLB.com.
Thaddeus Ward continues to make progress coming back from Tommy John surgery
Red Sox pitching prospect Thaddeus Ward underwent Tommy John surgery last summer. Ward was pitching with Double-A Portland back in May and allowed five runs in eight appearances before landing on the injured list with a forearm strain.
Ward began to throw back in November as he works to get back to contributing in the minors.
“Until you’re faced with some adversity, you don’t really see someone’s true colors,” Red Sox minor league director Brian Abraham said in an article with The Athletic. “So, you hope someone is who they seem to be, and he’s certainly shown that is the case with him. … In terms of putting your money on somebody to get out of that and be stronger and understanding that he can only control what he can control, I think I would put my money on him coming out of it for the better.”
Ward threw his first bullpen today in Fort Myers, this comes on the heels from showing off an adjusted slope at the end of February. The right-hander is currently ranked No. 21 with MLB Pipeline.
