Red Sox Trade Targets: The Rockies have two arms that could be a fit for the bullpen
Either Daniel Bard and Alex Colome could be potential trade targets
The Red Sox are one of the hottest teams in all of baseball. During the month of June, the Red Sox are 19-4 and have won 11 of 13. That’s helped them catapult to the third best record in the American League and second place in the American League East.
As well as Boston is playing, the Yankees are just as hot. New York still leads the division by 11 games. All the Red Sox need to focus on is winning series, which they’ve done at an impressive clip.
With the MLB Trade Deadline coming up in roughly five weeks, the Red Sox need to add players if they want to solidify their roster. Boston is reportedly interested in adding two right-handed relievers to the bullpen.
One name that has been floated around quite a bit in Boston has been former Sox righty Daniel Bard. The 37-year-old is currently the closer in Colorado and having a great season.
In 27 games, Bard has 15 saves, 1.88 ERA and a 0.942 WHIP. If the Sox were to land Bard he doesn’t necessarily need to come in and be the closer.
With the emergence of Tanner Houck as the new de facto closer, the Red Sox have a ninth inning option. Bard could serve as the eighth inning set up man and be paired with Austin Davis, John Schreiber, Matt Strahm and Jake Diekman.
Schreiber and Bard would be a potent one-two right-handed combo for manager Alex Cora. Once Boston gets Chris Sale back from the injured list, he’ll likely pitch out of the rotation but some reports have said he could be placed into the bullpen as well.
The bullpen which was once an Achilles heel for the Sox, has slowly come together. It’s an unfinished product and needs two decent righties.
If Chaim Bloom isn’t feeling nostalgic for Bard, Rockies righty Alex Colome is also having a decent year. In 28 games this season he’s 2-2, with a 2.63 ERA, three saves, 15 strikeouts and owns a 2.91 FIP.
Bloom has shown that he’s acquired pitching similar to how the Rays have over the years. Colome is a former Rays reliever.
Based off how Bloom acquired relievers at the deadline last season, it’s likely he won’t make a massive splash. Davis and Hansel Robles we’re anything but splashy. Robles was important to the bullpen after the collapse of Matt Barnes. Davis has been a massive surprise this season and fans are seeing why Bloom targeted the big lefty.
Don’t rule out some of the kids in Triple-A as potential pieces to the bullpen. Righty Brayan Bello has been dominant since his promotion. Bello could be a sneaky bullpen option down the stretch.

Quit trying to peddle these Colorado players off on the Red Sox. Neither are any better than what Boston has in its bullpen at this moment. Truth be known, the Red Sox are pitching shorthanded with 5 of their staff on the IL. When at full strength, the Red Sox staff is as good as any other team's corps of pitchers, including New York's.
