Red Sox trade catcher Christian Vazquez to the Astros
The Red Sox traded catcher Christian Vazquez to the Houston Astros for two prospects, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Boston will receive minor league infielder/outfielder Enmanuel Valdez and minor league outfielder Wilyer Abreu.
Valdez was ranked as the Astros No. 12 prospect according to Baseball America. He is hitting .327 this season between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Sugar Land.
Abreu, 23, is an outfielder was ranked as the Houston’s No. 21 prospect according to Baseball America. He’s hit .249/.399/.359 with 15 homers in 89 games in Double-A this year.
Vazquez is hitting .282/.327/.432 with eight homers in 82 games this year. He’s spent his entire career with the Red Sox but will get a chance at winning another World Series with the Astros.
Vazquez learned while on the field taking warmups he was traded. He was interviewing with media and said “It’s a business.” The former Sox catcher was then pulled away and ushered off the field by public relations.
