Red Sox top prospect Roman Anthony out of the Sea Dogs lineup since last week
The Portland Sea Dogs have been without top outfield prospect Roman Anthony since last Friday.
Anthony has been dealing with rib cage irritation and is considered day-to-day, according to SoxProspects editor Chris Hatfield.
“Fifth Portland game in a row without Roman Anthony in the lineup tonight,” posted Hatfield. “I’m told he's day-to-day with rib cage irritation. Team does not consider it serious, which squares with his entering the game off the bench last Saturday when Phillip Sikes got hurt.”
Anthony has looked better at the plate of late prior to his injury while experiencing some growing pains with the Sea Dogs.
Through 41 games this season, the 2022 second-rounder is hitting .243/.365/.392, with three homers, 13 RBI, 29 walks, and 51 strikeouts.
Anthony, who is entering his second full professional season at Double-A, has been making adjustments to the pitching at this level and the weather in the Northeast.
“I think the weather was the main thing,” Anthony said in an interview with MLB.com. “The really cold weather, trying to stay warm and do everything you can to impact the baseball. The weather can be tough at times.”
Besides the weather, Anthony getting to see pitchers more than once has helped him get a better grasp of the hurlers in Double-A.
Anthony is just two steps away from playing with the Red Sox, but he is ready to rush that opportunity.
"Obviously, I want to get to the big leagues as fast as I can and help this team win as fast as I can,” Anthony said in an interview with Beyond the Monster back in April. “But for now, being in Portland, Maine, I’m just trying to be where my feet are at and help this team win and get better here every day with these guys.”
