Red Sox to call up right-hander Jake Faria, Chris Martin to the 15-day injured list
The Red Sox will call up right-handed pitcher Jake Faria from Triple-A Worcester, per source. The move will coincide with the club placing reliever Chris Martin on the injured list. He underwent an MRI on his right arm, per manager Alex Cora.
“He’s a little bit banged up. It started with the bicep, now the shoulder,” manager Alex Cora said to reporters on Sunday at Fenway Park. “So we have to stay away from him. Actually, he’s getting checked by the doctor. There’s a good chance he’ll go on the IL. It’s nothing serious, serious. But it’s something we have to take into consideration. So we were talking about it and we’ll see what we do.”
Faria has appeared in three games with the WooSox this season, he was 1-0 with a 10.80 ERA, with five strikeouts in five innings.
Boston signed Faria back in February to a minor league deal with a guaranteed $735K salary, if he made the Opening Day roster.
Faria has big league experience, the veteran righty came up with the Rays but has also pitched with the Diamondbacks and Brewers.
Faria has four years of big league experience, he owns a 9-9 record with a 4.70 ERA over 72 games making 29 starts.
