Red Sox sign Tyler Danish to a minor-league deal, invite to Spring Training
As the MLB lockout rolls on, Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom has been adding depth via minor-league deals. On Sunday, Boston signed right-handed reliever Tyler Danish, giving them additional depth in their system.
The deal which was first reported by Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors reports that Danish will have an invite to Spring Training.
Danish was originally drafted by the White Sox back in 2013. The 27-year-old righty has bounced around the majors since being drafted in the second-round by Chicago.
Last season, Danish spent time in the Angels system. He posted a 5-3 record and a 3.84 ERA in 70 ⅓ innings split between Double-A and Triple-A.
In an interview with MLB Trade Rumors, Danish talked about how he’s focused on making adjustments on throwing more strikes.
“So during the Covid season of 2020 I kinda broke my whole delivery down and almost rebuilt it from the ground up. I train at the Florida Baseball armory in Lakeland, Fl with Randy Sullivan. We found some things that were limiting my delivery and direction to the plate. So that whole year we worked on those things and just became really fluent with everything I was doing,” said Danish.
Danish will look to earn a spot in the Red Sox bullpen this season. While he has aspirations on landing in Boston, it’s more likely he’ll end up in Triple-A Worcester.
