Red Sox sign outfielder Marcus Wilson to a minor-league deal
The Red Sox signed free agent outfielder Marcus Wilson to a minor-league deal, per the MiLB transactions page. He was assigned to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs.
Wilson spent parts of three seasons in the Red Sox organization after being traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks for Blake Swihart. The former second-round pick was never considered as one of the top Red Sox prospects.
He was ranked as the No. 34-ranked prospect in the farm system according SoxProspects.com. The move to bring in Wilson gives Boston more depth at the upper-levels of the minors.
Wilson made his major league debut with the Mariners last season. He played in three games, connecting for one hit in five at-bats. The Calif. native played in 91 for the Tacoma Rainers, Wilson hit .218 with 64 hirs, 18 doubles, triples, 16 homers and drove in 47 RBIs with an .808 OPS.
