Red Sox sign Daniel Palka to a minor league deal
The Red Sox have signed first baseman and outfielder Daniel Palka to a minor league deal, with an invite to spring training. The deal was first announced by WEEI’s Rob Bradford and MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Palka spent last season in the Mets organization, playing for their Triple-A affiliate. He played 109 games batting .263, 104 hits, 18 doubles, 26 homers, 79 RBIs and .850 OPS.
The 31-year-old is a veteran of two big league seasons, both with the White Sox. He’s played 154 career games owning a .218 average and 29 homers.
Palka was drafted in the third-round by the Diamondbacks in 2013 out of Georgia Tech.
The majority of his baseball career has been spent in the minors.
In the winter of 2015, Palka was traded to the Twins. Two seasons later he was claimed off waivers by the White Sox. He’s also spent time playing for the Samsung Lions and the Nationals Triple-A minor league affiliate.
